LEWISTON, MAINE – July 31, 2018
Elmet Technologies of Lewiston, Maine, is pleased to announce commercial release of specially designed 3.5 micron and 5 micron tungsten powders for enhanced green strength. These powders are ideal for pressing parts at lower compaction pressures and for producing parts with fine features. Dr. John Johnson, Elmet’s Vice President of Technology commented on the release, “in close partnership with several customers we were able to optimize the powder morphology and packing density to achieve the green strength required for their applications.
Elmet Technologies is the only fully integrated US owned and operated producer of pure tungsten and molybdenum material and powders. In addition to the new high green strength powders Elmet also offers standard tungsten and molybdenum powders and has the capabilities to alloy, dope and blend for customers. About Elmet
Established in 1929, Elmet Technologies LLC is a 100% US owned and operated, fully integrated primary manufacturer of molybdenum, tungsten products and alloys. Elmet was formerly Royal Philips’ US tungsten/molybdenum production facility. At our 220,000 square foot plant in Lewiston, Maine USA, Elmet’s manufacturing begins with molybdenum and tungsten chemical precursors which are reduced in-house to pure metal powders. We have a chemical plant and large capacity powder reduction furnaces. We utilize state-of-the-art powder metallurgy processes to dope (if required), press, sinter, roll, and swage the powder to fully dense mill products. We are the only US based molybdenum and tungsten manufacturer that produces flat, long, and round mill products under one roof. We also make plate, sheet, and foil flat rolled products plus rod and wire. We have industry leading machining, fabrication, and assembly capabilities. Our lathes, vertical machining centers, wire EDMs and other equipment have large work envelopes to manufacture with the precision required by our markets. These include products for aerospace, automotive, thin-film coating, crystal growth, defense, high-temperature furnace, sapphire growth, electronics, energy, LED, lighting, semiconductor, flat panel display (FPD), medical imaging, and many other industries. All processing takes place at our Maine facility under supervision of our experienced engineering team. We employ over 150 professionals including 15 engineers and metallurgists. Our well-equipped, on-site laboratory supports both production and R&D activities. We are a specialty metals business with over 85 years of molybdenum and tungsten production experience. Elmet is ITAR registered and our quality systems are ISO 9001 and AS9100 certified. www.elmettechnologies.com
