New foreign tungsten sourcing restrictions as part of Section 871 of 2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)
Lewiston, Maine March 12, 2019- Elmet Technologies, a 100% U.S. owned and based, fully-integrated producer of tungsten and molybdenum is seeing increased US Demand and inquiries stemming from Section 871 of 2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The 2019 NDAA restricts U.S. Defense Industry related acquisition of tungsten powder, tungsten heavy alloy and certain other materials that have been melted or produced in China, North Korea, Russia, and Iran. These new restrictions cover tungsten powder and tungsten heavy alloy mill products such as bar, billet, slab, wire, cube, sphere, block, blank, plate or sheet.
Given the number of inquiries and questions, Elmet Technologies has received regarding these new restrictions Elmet wanted to let its customers know that it fully complies with all the new restrictions.
As the only U.S. owned and operated, fully-integrated producer of pure tungsten and molybdenum, all Elmet Technologies tungsten and tungsten heavy alloy (WHA) materials are compliant with the standards outlined by Section 871 of the 2019 NDAA. Specifically, all of Elmet’s tungsten powder and tungsten products are produced at its facility in Lewiston, Maine. Additionally, all of Elmet’s raw materials are obtained from certified conflict-free resources.
